September 9: The United States Cluster Munition Coalition is appalled by the government of Lithuania's notification of its intent to withdraw from the Convention on Cluster Munitions and urges it to suspend the withdrawal and reverse course during the upcoming six months before such a move could have legal effect. We further reiterate our condemnation of the Biden administration's multiple transfers of cluster munitions to Ukraine, which have contributed to the faulty argument that these weapons have a legitimate role in war today. We again call for the United States to end the use, transfer, and stockpiling of cluster munitions, to swiftly join the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and to encourage its partners and allies to do the same.
